Tamil Nadu is the second most affected Indian state due to Coronavirus in India
With 1900+ confirmed cases, Tamil Nadu is next to Maharashtra in the number of coronavirus positive cases. Maharashtra is the worst affected state due to the coronavirus with more than 8000 confirmed cases and 340 total deaths. Chennai and Coimbatore are the worst-hit districts in Tamil Nadu, the virus had made its way into 37 of 38 districts.
With more than 570 cases Chennai lays on the top of the chart but has witnessed only 8 deaths so far. Coimbatore is the next with 141 cases, followed by Tirupur, Dindigul, Madurai, Erode, etc. Tamil Nadu has the lowest fatality rate in the country due to the virus as out of the 1900 cases, there were only 24 deaths.
The State has been under lockdown since the 25th of March and was on the receiving end of criticism for not being able to carry our adequate number of tests till early March. Since then the state had increased testing to seven-fold. The state has its first COVID-19 positive case on the 7th of March. Most of Tamil Nadu’s cases increased after 31st March when the first 100 cases were confirmed. The number increased to 1000 in the next two weeks and it was reported that 86% of these cases were from the Delhi Event.
The government which initially had only 4 testing laboratories, increased the number to 41 labs (30 government and 11 private) by April 26th. The total number of samples that have been tested so far is 94000+ and since the increase in the number of tests combined with the strict lockdown measures the state has been following, the number of cases is beginning to come down slowly.
All the news agencies have been repeatedly telecasting about the important COVID-19 statistics and the details of areas to avoid and the measures to be taken if symptoms are experienced. Besides being assistance to the government in the crisis, the news channels have been able to provide a fairer examination of the circumstances. The major Tamil news channels that have been doing the job in the state are Sun News Live, Thanthi TV, and Puthiya Thalaimurai and News 7 Tamil and other channels.
These esteemed news channels are also the only source of information for the Tamil populace that are living abroad and have their families in India. Giving a situational rep at every step, they are providing the most necessary comfort and peace of mind to the ex-pats. Since all of these news channels are available to watch online on various streaming services for free or for a meager price, many Indians are turning to OTT platforms for their serenity.
