Will India repeat history by winning Nidahas Trophy 2018?

With India being the first qualifier of the Nidahas Trophy final the excitement dates back to 1998 during which India won the first Nidahas Trophy with Sachin Tendulkar’s brilliant performance. Now the big question arises is that will the current players be able to create a historic scene by winning the trophy this year.

Earlier Sri Lanka hosted Nidahas Trophy in 1998 to celebrate the 50th year of Independence and also the 50th year of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka. The three countries which were involved in the series were India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, this time the hosts invited Bangladesh to play the series instead. The Lankans scheduled 9 qualifying matches in the tri-national series before India and Sri Lanka could clash for the finals. The nail wracking match under Mohammad Azharuddin's captaincy, the Men in blue won the trophy with 6 runs. Back then the Nidahas Trophy was ODI and this time the Sri Lankan Cricket Selectors chose T20I. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly created a record with their partnership by scoring 252 runs and India posted a total of 307 to the Lankans. God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar was awarded man-of-the-match for his incredible 128 runs which included 8 fours and 2 sixes and Aravinda de Silva hailing from Sri Lanka was titled name of the series.

Indian cricket selectors have rested as many as 6 best bowlers and batsman from the trophy and have given an amazing opportunity to the youngest players to take India forward in the Nidahas Trophy. India lost the first match of the tournament against the hosts, luckily the team regained its confidence and won the rest of the matches to enter finals. It’s a wait till 18th March to know if India wins the Nidahas Trophy for the second time. Enjoy watching the Nidahas Trophy final live online on YuppTV on all internet accessible devices.
